The Underwater Research Center of the Russian Geographical Society brings together people from different scientific fields – historians, archaeologists, divers, oceanographers and many others to conduct comprehensive underwater research using a complete range of tools and equipment. The purpose of the research is to study and preserve the natural, cultural and historic heritage.

Monk’s cave-2017
An underwater cave is located at the altitude of 733 m above the sea level on the western slope of the ridge Guam, where a waterfall runs down the travertine ledge. The first detailed examination of the underwater part of the cave started only at the end of the XX century.

Frigate Oleg-2017
The Underwater Research Center, RGS pursues on exploring one of the richest ships that sank in the Baltic sea, namely, sailing-screw frigate Oleg. This year our specialists have managed to reach the admiral salon where the ship church was situated. Presently, a technique is being developed to recover the artifacts to the surface from a depth of over 50 m.
