The Underwater Research Center of the Russian Geographical Society brings together people from different scientific fields – historians, archaeologists, divers, oceanographers and many others to conduct comprehensive underwater research using a complete range of tools and equipment. The purpose of the research is to study and preserve the natural, cultural and historic heritage.

Peter's Dock
The Underwater archeology museum will be established at the Dock of Peter the Great in Kronstadt, Russia. It is assumed that the Museum exposition will include artefacts and remains of ship wrecks found during the expeditions held by the Underwater Research Center of the Russian Geographical Society.

Expedition
Empress Catherine the Great
The team of the Underwater Research Center, RGS continues to explore the battleship Empress Catherine the Great (in 1918 the name was changed to Free Russia) which was sunk in the Novorossiysk bay after World War I. The next stage of works is to start examining internal areas of the battleship and recovery of the artifacts to be exhibited in museums.

Our colleagues and partners from U-Boat Malta and Messina University invited URC RGS to take part in the expedition to the wrecks in the Strait of Messina. We invited our students-hydronauts who completed the pilot course in the RCC “Orlyonok” to join the underwater adventure.
